The first day of the year. 1/365. It’s the typical time when your social media feeds are flooded with New Year posts—people sharing their 2024 recaps, highlighting their achievements, travels, new purchases, and resolutions. You’ll see hopeful wishes, smiling family photos, and plans for the year ahead. But somewhere out there, there’s another story being written.

There are those who spent New Year’s Eve differently: sleeping through the night after an exhausting shift, working as a seafarer far from home, or thriving moms juggling responsibilities. Some were doctors or nurses on duty, call center agents handling irate customers, or parents simultaneously cooking dinner and prepping to watch fireworks with their kids from the rooftop—all without grandiose celebrations because duty called.

I’ve been in those shoes. I know the bittersweet feeling of scrolling through joyful posts while you’re in the trenches of struggle. But here’s the beauty of it: you can find immense joy and peace even in those moments. It’s a journey of shifting perspectives, and I want to share how I learned to thrive as a mother boss.

Focus on Your Own Path

First, stop comparing your story to others. Social media often shows the highlights of people’s lives, not the full picture. What might seem like bragging could actually be someone’s way of celebrating or coping with their own challenges. Instead of envying their joy, celebrate your own wins, however small they may feel.

Define what truly matters to you. Take time to meditate, reflect, and dig deep into your core values. What brings you genuine happiness? What aligns with your principles? If you have children, try to align their happiness with yours. When you root your joy in things that matter most, external pressures lose their power.

Understand Your Struggles

Day 1 of the year can feel like a clean slate, but it can also bring anxiety. What’s ahead? Will this year be better? The hardest battle isn’t against external obstacles—it’s against your inner doubts, fears, and insecurities. Learn to face your demons with compassion. Focus on what you can control and let go of what you can’t.

As a mother boss, your rhythm may feel elusive at times, but once you find it, life transforms. It won’t be easy, but the key lies in persistence and self-belief. Take pride in your small victories. Whether it’s surviving a hectic day, making time for yourself, or sharing a moment of laughter with your kids, these moments are worth celebrating.

Forgive Yourself and Others

Another essential step is practicing forgiveness. Forgive yourself for past mistakes, missed opportunities, or moments when you felt you fell short. Holding onto guilt or regret only weighs you down. Accept that you’re human and that imperfection is part of the journey.

Equally important is forgiving others. People may have hurt or disappointed you, intentionally or not. Carrying resentment affects your peace more than theirs. Let go of grudges to free up emotional space for growth and positivity. Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting—it means choosing peace over anger.

Trust the Process

To every thriving mother boss out there, I want to remind you: you’re doing better than you think. The journey isn’t about grand gestures or perfect celebrations—it’s about showing up every day, no matter how tough it gets. Trust the process and believe in your strength. You’ve got this.
