This past weekend, I attended an acting and modeling workshop, expecting it to be a typical day filled with lectures, practices, and a few photo shoots. However, it turned out to be so much more than I anticipated. It was a revelation—a chance to reflect on whether being an actor or a model is truly the right path for you. This workshop helped me understand that this industry isn’t for everyone, but it can feel perfect for those who are born to shine.
As I observed, there were parents accompanying their kids, hoping to help them become child stars. Some kids genuinely wanted to explore the entertainment world, while others were clearly there because their parents saw potential in them. I couldn’t help but feel uneasy about parents forcing their children into the industry solely for fame or money. However, I also admired those kids who seemed genuinely excited to be there.
The attendees came from all walks of life. Among the teenagers, it was inspiring to see one participant with social anxiety using the workshop as a way to challenge herself. That kind of courage is rare and commendable. I also noticed how the workshop might benefit teens on the autism spectrum or those with mental health challenges, offering them a platform for self-expression.
Then there were the participants in their early to mid-20s, ready to dive into roles and projects. What surprised me the most were the attendees in their 40s and beyond—few of them parents—who proved that it’s never too late to explore a passion. This workshop taught me that no matter your age or stage in life, you can discover new aspects of yourself and pursue opportunities.
One of the key takeaways from the workshop was the coach’s advice to approach acting and modeling realistically. He emphasized that when you’re starting out, this path might not be financially sustainable as a full-time career. Payment for big projects often takes months, and it’s wise to have other sources of income. I appreciated his honesty and practical approach to the industry.
The workshop’s structure was impressive. It combined theoretical insights, tactical strategies, trade secrets, and practical exercises. This blend of learning and doing resonated deeply with me. I’ve always valued simplicity and practicality, and this workshop reinforced the idea that even complex things can be made straightforward if approached with clarity.
One surprising moment for me was during an emotional exercise where we were encouraged to cry. Despite my usual ability to cry easily, I couldn’t shed a tear. The coach replayed sad music, and I tried thinking about the saddest moments of my life, but nothing worked. Later, I realized that my tears are more often linked to anger than sadness. Growing up, I’ve learned to suppress sadness and toughen up, but anger still triggers tears for me. This insight was eye-opening and made me think about how I can improve if I want to excel in emotional roles.
Overall, this workshop was life-changing. It gave me a fresh perspective on stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something entirely new. With just a few years left before I turn 50, I’m inspired to make the most of life by doing things that are both meaningful and fun. It’s also a reminder to surround myself with supportive people who uplift me rather than drag me down.
The coach’s words about everyone having inner talents that just need a trigger to shine deeply resonated with me. This weekend wasn’t just another training session for the agency or the coach—it was a transformative experience for me. I’m excited to see the results of the workshop through the videos and photo shoots. More importantly, I’m motivated to start practicing my craft and submitting set cards and VTRs for potential roles—even if it’s just for fun or as a mommy villain!
Thank you, AGTA Studios, and Mr. Manuel Genabe, for such a productive and meaningful weekend. I wish you continued success and blessings in your journey.
